The Perfect Southern Chicken Marinade

With Spicy Homemade BBQ Sauce

Serves 6-8



¼ C oil
3/8 C apple cider vinegar
1/8 C soy sauce
1 ½ T fine balsamic vinegar
1 T Maker’s Mark bourbon
3 T catsup
1 oz. maple syrup
1 T “Signature Spice Rub” (Fresh Market)
4-5 t kosher salt
1 t black pepper
3 very large cloves garlic chopped


½ C catsup
½ C orange juice, 2
T Maker’s Mark bourbon
1 T balsamic vinegar
4 T packed brown sugar
Splash apple cider vinegar
Dash salt and pepper
1 t chili flakes (to taste!)


  • Place chicken in large bag and pour the marinade over, and let sit in fridge for 4-6 hours. Grill on outside grill. Mix all sauce ingredients in pan and heat through. Serve the sauce over the grilled chicken.
